K'aresh was the ethereal homeworld. It was an arid planet with a thriving ecosystem and several sentient species.[1] It had at least two suns.[2]

When Dimensius the All-Devouring arrived, he opened numerous gateways into the Twisting Nether around the planet, exposing K'aresh to shadow and arcane energies. The species who would become the ethereals erected magical barriers around their cities that blocked the shadow energies, but the arcane energies passed through, stripping away their corporeal forms and infusing their souls with enough energy to survive without bodies. They bound themselves in enchanted strips of cloth to give their souls structure, becoming the ethereals.[1]

The ethereals initially fought Dimensius and his forces to a standstill, but he eventually summoned armies of void creatures and forced them to flee into the Twisting Nether.[1] The Ethereum, formerly the ruling class of the ethereals on K'aresh, vowed vengeance against Dimensius and pursued him following the evacuation of their homeworld.[3]
