All parameters are optional. Unused rows and entire empty sections disappear. Sides are numbered consistently across sections and appear as stacked rows, so five sides remain readable at 20em width. Gaps are allowed: side 5 can appear without sides 3 and 4.

Parameters

Parameter Cargo field Purpose
name Name Display name; defaults to the page title even if blank.
type Type Free-text conflict type: War, Battle, Siege, Campaign, Uprising, or Territorial dispute.
image, caption Image, Caption Image filename without File:, and optional caption; fixed 200px image. Caption is shown only with an image.
partof Part_of One plain page name without link brackets for the enclosing war or campaign; automatically linked.
date Date In-world date or range, including approximate or fictional-calendar dates.
location Location Locations; supply links explicitly.
prelude, provocation Prelude, Provocation Background and precipitating cause.
begin, end Begin, End Beginning and end dates or events. Free text; independent of date.
status Status For example, Ongoing or Concluded.
result, results Result, Results Use result for a brief outcome summary and results for an optional detailed list of consequences.
territory Territorial_changes Territorial changes.
army1–army5 Army_1–Army_5 Optional labels for five independent sides or coalitions, reused in the commanders, strength, and casualties sections. Supply links explicitly. With no detailed combatant entry, an army value itself appears in Belligerents.
combatant1–combatant5 Combatant_1–Combatant_5 Belligerents or constituent participant details for each side.
faction1–faction5 Faction_1–Faction_5 Optional FactionIcon keys beside each side in Belligerents. Keys: alliance, horde, ashen, guardians, neutral, combat, scourge, burning. An icon alone does not create a side row. These are emblems, not participant identities.
commander1–commander5 Commander_1–Commander_5 Commanders and leaders for each side.
strength1–strength5 Strength_1–Strength_5 Numbers or qualitative descriptions of forces.
casualties1–casualties5 Casualties_1–Casualties_5 Losses for each side. Blank does not mean zero.
battles Major_battles Major battles within a larger conflict; supply linked names.
previous, concurrent, next Previous, Concurrent, Next Related conflicts or events; supply links.
alternate Alternate_level A related conflict at a different scale, such as a wider theatre or a constituent campaign. Supply links.
notes, source Notes, Source Brief additional notes and source citations.
nocargo=yes — Suppress Cargo storage and automatic Conflicts categorization for an example or preview.

Side labels

Use the same number for a side's army label, emblem, belligerents, commanders, strength, and losses. Without an army label, the heading is “Side 1”, “Side 2”, and so on. An army label alone appears as a belligerent. Fill combatant with constituent forces or other details when needed.

Use one Conflictbox per article.

Use linked wikitext in textual fields except partof, which accepts one unlinked page name. Use <br> or a formatted list for multiple participants. These are displayed lists, not normalized Cargo relationships.

Cargo

Declares Conflicts and stores only in the main namespace when nocargo is not yes. Automatic Category:Conflicts uses the same guard. Template documentation and sandbox uses do not populate the table or category.

Cargo field names use underscores, such as Army_5, Combatant_5, Commander_5, and Casualties_5. Rich fields preserve linked wikitext; dates are textual. Part_of is a Page field that stores one plain page title, matching Locationbox’s Parent convention; its displayed value is automatically linked. Recreate the table if updating the original two-side draft.

Implementation

Data cells place values on a new line so wiki bullet lists and nested lists can be parsed.

Requires ParserFunctions, TemplateStyles, Cargo, the existing Documentation template, and FactionIcon. Uses one HTML table with conditional rows and whitespace suppression. Sections remain visible. Main-namespace uses enter Category:Conflicts. Fixed 200px images match the existing Gazetteer convention.
