Azeroth is home to dozens of languages[1], including some that are from other worlds. The major languages all have associated writing systems, but that is hardly a given for languages with smaller populations.

There are several language families that clearly go back to a more ancient tongue, but this is not commonly known and may not even be acceptable within educated circles.

Endnotes

  1. ↑ Frankal Stonebridge says while in Silithus, "[…] between Brann, Rutgar, me and the monkey, we know 38 different languages including a touch of Titan."
  2. ↑ Warcraft: The Roleplaying Game, pp. 99 and 104
  3. ↑ World of Warcraft: The Roleplaying Game, pg. 131
  4. ↑ The name of the language isn't confirmed until November 2015 on Twitter: "Sounds like you may enjoy the fact that you're forced to speak Shath'yar - the language of the Old Gods - while in Voidform."
