Parameters

Use plain text or manually written Page / label links in descriptive fields. Only parent is automatically linked. To display multiple entries, use commas or
. If a value needs a literal pipe outside a link or template, use |.

Parameter Cargo field Meaning

caption Caption Optional image caption; shown only when an image is supplied.
faction Faction Header icon key for Template:FactionIcon: alliance, horde, ashen, guardians, neutral, combat, scourge, burning. This is separate from political affiliation.
fname Former_name Earlier names; qualify names with dates where useful.
type Type Type.
parent Parent One exact wiki page title, without [[ ]] or a display label. Automatically linked in the infobox and stored as a Cargo Page. This is the immediate geographical parent, not a full ancestry chain.

source Source Source references; use <ref> tags or concise citations as appropriate. Add to the article when needed.
nocargo — Set to yes on demonstrations or tests to suppress Cargo storage and automatic Locations categorisation. Not an article data field.

Hierarchy

Use an immediate geographical parent consistently. A village can have a forest as its parent, and that forest can have a kingdom as its parent. Administrative allegiance belongs in affiliation. Cargo stores the parent as a page title, allowing queries to find directly contained locations; recursive descendants are not automatically calculated.

Cargo

The template declares and stores data in Locations. Fields use underscores where their labels contain spaces. Linked descriptive fields use Wikitext string; longer source, access, garrison, historical-population, and caption fields use Wikitext. Wikitext string fields default to 300 characters in Cargo; keep these infobox summaries short. The Parent field is Page and Image is File.

Storage and automatic Locations categorisation occur only in the main namespace. Use one Locationbox per location article. Documentation, user sandboxes, and template test pages do not add records. The declaration is included in Template:Locationbox itself; do not install it as a second declaring template.

Styling

Template:Locationbox/styles.css controls the 20em table. It follows Template:npcbox: a right-floated continuous HTML table with conditional rows, a faction icon beside the name, and optional image.
